What is the History and Mystery Tour?

The History and Mystery Tour is a story telling/walking tour of Dallas Oregon conducted by a trained tour guides in the evening hours. You will enter buildings to learn about the mysteries surrounding them. Others you'll be close enough to touch them.  Our tours recount stories  from the past and newer accounts that current building occupants have shared. Some stories have been told for so long that they are almost categorized as legends. All stories are either paranormal or  histories of the locations. 

    

Where do we meet?
Your tour will begin on the Polk County Courthouse lawn located at 850 S. Main Street. Dallas Oregon, 97338. Click Here for Directions from Salem. Please Arrive 5 minutes prior to your scheduled tour time. 

 

Do we need to purchase tickets in advance?

We prefer you purchase your tickets in advance to your tour date/time. You can always stop by the Polk County Courthouse 5 minutes prior to the tour to see if there are any tickets available for that day or time. No guarantees of availability.  

 

What is your ticket cancellation policy?

Tickets are non-refundable, but may be transferable.  Please call 503-839-1999 or email for more information.

 

What happens if it rains?

Oregonians are always prepared for the rain! Bring an umbrella! Tours are conducted rain or shine. However, if the conditions are deemed hazardous or severe, we reserve the right to postpone or reschedule the tour. We recommend dressing appropriately for the weather conditions. Layers and closed toed shoes are always best. 

 

If my tour is cancelled, will I get a refund?

Hazardous conditions may cause us to postpone or reschedule a tour. If we cancel your tour for any other reason, you will receive a full refund if requested. Tickets can be transferred to any other date as well.

 

Are there restrooms available during the walking tour?

Restrooms are not available during History and Mystery Tour. 

 

What is the pace of the walking tour?

The tours are at a leisurely pace and last approximately 1.5 hours.

 

Is the tour suitable for children?
You know your child best so you are the most appropriate judge as to whether a History and Mystery Tour is something that will work for them. We would say that any child will most likely have questions related to the stories and ghosts in general.

Will I be able to communicate with my Grandma who passed away last year? 

This tour is not intended for communication with late family members. Although Grandma Betty may be on the tour with you, we will not be dedicating time for you to speak with her. This tour is for entertainment purposes only. 

 

Have you had any paranormal activity on the tour?

We do not guarantee paranormal activity, we have, however, had lots of interesting experiences.  Please feel free to ask your tour guide about their encounters.

It is scary?

The tours are story-telling events related to the town and certain buildings. Nothing is staged and no employees will jump out and try to scare you. If there is an unusual occurrence it is truly paranormal in nature and/or completely by chance.

 

Are your tours dog friendly?

We love dogs but they are not allowed on our regular tours. 

 

Are the tours accessible to those with disabilities?

Due to varying conditions of the locations and uneven floors/staircases, it is advised that pregnant women or those with any heart complaint/restricted mobility conditions consider strongly before attending. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate those in wheelchairs or those unable to climb stairs. If you are unsure whether an event is suitable for you, please contact us prior to booking so we can address your concerns.

 

In what language are the tours conducted?
Currently, our tours are in English only.

 

Can I bring a camera?

Absolutely! We recommend bringing a camera for all tours. Not only can you get great pictures of haunted historic buildings, you might just capture a ghostly image! Ask your guide about flash photography.

 

Am I guaranteed to get pictures of ghosts your tour?
No, there is no legitimate way to guarantee a picture of a ghost. Ghosts do not appear when asked; they do what they want, when they want.

 

Do you have private group tours?

Yes ! Contact us to discuss scheduling your private group tour! 

 

How many people can you accommodate on your tours?

Limit the size of the tour is no more than 25 people.

The History and Mystery Tour understand that you are interested in the tour because you want an entertaining and exciting experience. We strive to ensure that you walk away from your tour satisfied with your time with us. With that said, please scroll below to see our terms and conditions:

Due to varying conditions of the locations and uneven floors/staircases, it is advised that pregnant women or those with any heart complaint/restricted mobility conditions consider strongly before attending. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate those in wheelchairs or those unable to climb stairs. If you are unsure whether an event is suitable for you, please contact us prior to booking so we can address your concerns.The Dallas Area Visitors Center, The History and Mystery Tour and all affiliates including tour guides accept no liability for any illness or injury that may occur as a result of one of our tours or events.

Due to the fact that some locations having uneven floors/stairs and coupled with the fact that the tour are frequently conducted in darkness, sensible footwear such as athletic shoes or flat shoes MUST be worn. Stilettos are NOT permitted. The Dallas Area Visitors Center, The History and Mystery Tour and all affiliates including tour guides will not be liable for any injury caused as a result of such footwear and wearing such footwear could result in being turned away from the event. Also, due to most of the tour locations being out of doors, guests are asked to dress for the predicted weather conditions. Layers are great!

Guests attend tours at their own risk. The Dallas Area Visitors Center, The History and Mystery Tour and all affiliates including tour guides are not liable for any injury or illness as a result of the tour.  Health and Safety tours will be conducted prior to the commencement of an event and if any area of that location is deemed unsafe, no persons will be permitted to enter.

Due to the History and Mystery Tour being in locations that are well populated, we ask that tour guests conduct themselves as quietly possible in order to avoid disruption to any local residents.

​

Although the desire to wander off to explore something that caught your eye will be tempting, we ask that for health and safety purposes, you are to stay with your tour group.

​

The Dallas Area Visitors Center, The History and Mystery Tour and all affiliates including tour guides are not liable for any loss or damage to any guests’ personal belongings brought to an event, or left in vehicles. This includes any camera equipment, clothing, etc, which may be damaged or affected by poltergeist activity. We will also not be liable for any parking fines. Please always be considerate when parking your vehicle for your tour.

NO SMOKING will be allowed while on your tour. If your behavior during the event has a detrimental effect on other guests’ enjoyment, you WILL be asked to leave the event. This includes behavior brought on by the result of alcohol consumption or the use of other intoxicating substances. In addition, excessive cell phone use will not be tolerated. Period.

​

The Dallas Area Visitors Center, The History and Mystery Tour and all affiliates including tour guides reserve the right to refuse service to any participants who seem intoxicated, are being disruptive to guides or other participants. 

​

All sales are final.
